Day 10 - What I see out the passenger window

 19 May 2026 Stony Plain to Grand Prairie 


We got an early start this morning, pulling out of our campsite at Campin' Class RV Campground in Stony Plain AB at 8am  It was another beautiful morning, no wind, a few fluffy clouds in the sky and very little traffic on the road.  

Today was the first day in our travels that we actually were able to use The Milepost Book.  We picked up our route in Stony Plain and immediately began looking for mile post markers like we have in America. I was trying to figure out how to match up the mileage in the book to the "milepost" markers.  Well, they don't exist. You have to read the information along with the mile markers. It is the information that is the "marker". Once I figured out the method it was actually a lot of fun reading each marker as they we approaching. Each town had a snippet about it.

We found a simple gentlemen's fixer upper. Nothing a little elbow grease couldn't fix up.

Something about when the moose warning signs get bigger you just better take notice. Unfortunately it wasn't long after seeing this huge sign we spotted a moose on the side of the road that had been hit.

We pulled over at the Valleyview Visitor Center for a place to walk the dogs and just get out and look around. What a beautiful view.  I noticed today along our drive random park benches on the tops of hills along the highway. You would have to park and hike to get to them. There was even one on a hill across the valley from the Rochfort trestle bridge. They may be on private property, and the owners have just realized what spectacular views they have and they want to enjoy them.  
There were benches here at the Valleyview Visitor Center also. Just looking out on to the great expanse.

We found COSTCO!!! Cheapest diesel yet.  No I didn't go in to the store. I have nowhere to put anything in the RV.  Maybe on the way home.  LOL!!!

Day 1 - Is this really happening?

  10 May 2026 Mothers Day 10am We are off!  Not without a hiccup though. Yesterday afternoon while loading the refrigerator on board I noticed it wasn't as cool as it was earlier. After some troubleshooting we figured out the evaporator cooling fan had DIED! (Nope this isn't a part that sits on the shelf at your local Walmart.) a couple of calls were made, no one had the part in stock.  OK, not a problem. We will make do.  Plan #1 - We have a small apartment size refrigerator on the back deck area. We will use that during the trip and keep all the frozen food in the freezer side that was still working.  Plan #2 - Our good friends Mark & Peggy Steffen, who also own a Brinkley and live in St Robert, came up with the idea of swapping their refrigerator cooling fan for ours. They would call in a service order on Monday for their unit to get it repaired.  (We are both still under warranty)   They guys decide to go with plan #2.  A couple hours...

Day 5 - Dorothy this isn't Kansas and this isn't a tornado

We are under a Red Flag warning, a High wind warning (35 - 45 mph winds with gusts up to 65 mph) in effect today. WHEW!!! It is CRAZY!! We had a couple of items we needs to pick up at Walmart and we wanted to fill up the truck before heading out tomorrow morning so we went into Minot this morning while the wind wasn't to severe.  We were coming up to the Souris River in town and Rich spotted our wildlife sighting for the day, a family of Geese! 2 adult geese with 6 goslings.   We went to a local mom & pop diner for breakfast that we found online called Charlie's. The place was clean, people were nice and food was good. When we come this way again I want to go back to try there burgers.    Afterwards we drove around the block to snap a picture of the oldest Catholic Church in the area; St Leo the Great Catholic Church, built in 1908.  Next on our tour of Minot was the Scandinavian Heritage Park. Day 4 - If the wind stops blowing does everyone just fall over?

 13 May 2026  - No wind! We woke up to the most peaceful morning here in the middle of the vineyard at Viking Vines Vineyards RV park.  It was such a different feeling not being blown all over the place!  Very enjoyable.  Viking Vines Vineyard Viking Vines Vineyard RV Park Interstate 94 is a lonely Interstate. There is not much traffic up here in North Dakota.   Did you know the population of the entire state of North Dakota is around 800,000? There are cities more populated that this entire state!!  Beautiful days like today could entice a person  to move here. Then you talk to a local and hear of -45° winters and 60 mph winds for days and change your mind quicker than a prairie fire with a tail wind!!!  Interesting sights along the way today:  World's Largest Buffalo - Ummpf!!!
